Heart-pounding footage shows the moment a boat blew its top at a Florida marina, leaving one person dead and another five injured on Monday.
The small boat exploded around 6 p.m. and then the fire spread at Lauderdale Marina as shell-shocked bystanders looked on helplessly, according to video from NBC 6.
The top half of the boat launched into the air before landing back on the lower part of the vessel.
Witnesses who were at a nearby restaurant in Fort Lauderdale told the Miami Herald they saw the boat fueling up before the explosion.
“I heard a huge explosion, and I looked over and [there was a woman] on the second floor of the boat,” a bystander said.
A second, smaller boat then caught fire during the surreal incident, according to the newspaper.
Five victims were pulled from the chaos and rushed to nearby hospitals, with three dealing with traumatic injuries, authorities said, according to reports.
The fatal victim was found dead in the water by divers.
“That boat is completely gone,” restaurant worker Tamer Dimiati told Local 10.
“After that, I ran out there to see if anybody needed help. One guy was on fire, another person was in the water. It was just chaos all at once.”
It took about two hours for firefighters to put out the raging blaze, the Herald reported.
